Hey all,
I finally got my survey about second life and well being going on, but now there's one BIG concern: what are the best ways to distribute/spread the questionnaire among a specific group of second life participants (newbies of max. 4 days old) I included a reward for ppl who take the questionnaire, but it seems to take a lot of time to find all the channels where i can promote the research project. And i'm kinda working against a deadline :/
So does anyone has any tips or help on promot…

Our bodies are very much a part of all our learning and learning is not an isolated "brain" function. Every nerve and cell is a network contributing to our intelligence and our learning capability. Exercise triggers the release of BDNF a brain-derived neurotropic factor that enables one neuron to communicate with another. Students who sit for longer than twenty minutes experience a decrease in the flow of BDNF. FootGaming is one way students can trigger sharper learning skills. ExerLearning can…

We understand the busy nature of life at school and at home. These days everyone seems overscheduled - and "screen time" rates a high priority for learning, leisure, fun and games. Meanwhile the team at Exerlearning is working hard to let everyone know that the FootPOWR peripheral is a plug and play strategy that lets everyone win! Here's more evidence that supports our ground-breaking work.
According to the 200…

it's 5:30 am as i write this, so please pardon me if i sound incoherent.
it's just that i woke up with the following thoughts burning in my head and i want to get them down.
educators who have spent some time thinking about (and talking about) virtual worlds with stakeholders who are less au fait with what they are, face the problem of being pooh-poohed.
this happens for two main reasons, and both are equally important, so the order of precedence in which i present them here is no indicator o…

The Tech Museum of Innovation in San Jose launched Polly Positron in the Idea Seeker Universe on www.kidscom.com to teach kids about water conservation. Using standards-based science programs and design challenge learning, avatar Polly showcased a lab based video, answered questions from kids on science and drove home the issues around water conservation using engaging interactivity and group discussion. The event was enthusiastically received by kids who have now asked Polly to come back and ta…

I am working with a communication professor here to create an undergraduate course that will address something often called "cybergeography" from a communication perspective. We're hunting down syllabi and course activities/assignments and I'm hoping to get suggestions from some members.
There are a lot of ways this concept plays out with regard to Second Life. One could look at the geographic distribution of SL users or servers in RL, for example, or use something like Slogbase to track avatar…

Yes, it has been a while since I have posted. . . my bad. . been busy.
Some great things have come my way, my co-leader teacher (Carol Schutt) and I have had the chance to showcase the Forensic Biotech program here at Enochs High School in a variety of venues. For example, we traveled to Palm Springs and Garden Grove to give presentations which included our work in Second Life. I just got back from presenting at Georgia Tech where I was awarded the national Genzyme-Life Technologies for biotech…

I spoke at the E-metrics conference last week with Jim Bower from Whyville and we were amazed at how engagement as a measurement in virtual worlds isn't getting more attention from folks looking at analytics.
Also in meeting with a school district librarian she stated how frustrated she was with educators needing to get more involved but not making time. We have a virtual reward system that educators can use in our virtual world at www.kidscom.com but we are having a hard time in figuring out h…

Most schools don't have contingency plans in place, other than sending homework via email.
After children come back from their summer vacations a second wave of the (potentially mutated and more dangerous) H1N1 virus may hit. In such an event schools would close for several weeks or even months.
Companies, schools, universities and military and government institutions in many countries have been using 3D immersive virtual worlds for training, education and collaboration. I have been personally…
