Hi Vanessa, Just to piggyback off of what Azwaldo mentions: OpenSim IS an option. Both Azwaldo and I currently support a high school science teacher currently using Reaction Grid - an OpenSim grid that is very educator friendly. In fact, our grid...

About Me:
In addition to doing contracted work in the areas of educational media design and development, I teach about and support the use of virtual worlds for San Diego State University as a part time adjunct instructor/researcher. I also work with Global Kids at times - most recently in the design and development of their Science In Second Life curriculum (with Dr. Beth Wellman - one of the best folks on the planet IMHO). You can usually find me wandering around the virtual world, exploring how it can be used in instruction and learning .. and sharing those experiences with others.

I'm always interested in new projects!

If It Qwaqs Like a Duck...

... It must be another virtual world!

Thanks to a SLED announcement by Lori Bell of Alliance Library System, I had the opportunity to attend a Qwaq demo yesterday hosted by John at Learning Times. Very interesting, despite some unforeseen technical issues (gotta love technology!)

Built on the Croquet platform, the Qwaq environment offers some interesting collaborative features not currently supported in Second Life. For exa… Continue

Also known as Mari Asturias or Cathy Gkid

One odd thing about working in virtual worlds is being known by many names. It puts a bit of a burden on friends and colleagues to remember not one... but perhaps two or three names! My fuzzy brain shorts a fuse :-)

For the record (and hopefully the Search bar), my Second Life names are in the title. As I meander through other VWs, I'll post. Yay.

Howdy Cathy. Laura Willson, the author of the SLED question you replied to, has just left a comment about the issue as a comment on my page. I had simply sent her a note that I'd asked you to re-post your comment...
Hmmm, where else can I send you a message?

I am going through my video phase. got 2 more on my profile.
and I just figured out the PrtScrn button on my keyboard! I also figured out why "paint" (windows) is useful at retrieving PrtScn-ed pictures....ah, learning never ends. To my defense, my MA major was American Lit. Not ...computer stuff. I just fell into the VW thing. :-)

Hello Cathy, I ran across the Global Kids Project and it occured to me you may be interested in our work involving 3D virtual worlds on interactive surfaces in the classroom. The project is called Edusim, the project webpage is located at:

Just saw your comment; Jonathon Richter's announcement is the ninth comment in Barry's forum topic...No WAIT! That content is part of Barry's page, since he is hosting that recent discussion topic ("What research question would you fund ...?").

Hold the press! That's not Barry's page; it is actually an entry in Barry's RezEd blog, with comments forming a discussion (of sorts). But, then again, Sabine's moderated discussion took place in a group space...and yet, there is a "Featured Discussion" section in the forum...

What do you think, does Jonathan's invitation merit its own topic/discussion/forum/blog entry? (And, where should he post it so that it remains most visible, at least for a while?)

Easily confused,
Azwaldo
