I'm particularly interested in developing learning experiences and tools in Second Life to facilitate interprofessional education, particularly in allied health fields in collaboration with physicians, nurses, psychologists, etc. I think there are many opportunities to create some powerful cross-discipline educational opportunities.

Mary ... what a wonderful idea! I can see how patient encounters could be simulated. One way that this might be accomplished might be to create an item of clothing that contains the rash. Similar to the way tattoos are designed. This way the avatar would have the ability to "put on" or "take off" as needed.

I am always interested in knowing more about what others see as the potential for virtual worlds in medical education. Virtual worlds could be a setting for "simulated patients" to provide students with practical experiences. I think a chatbot approach might work. Being a microbiology educator, I have also been intrigued by the idea of using different "skins" in Second Life to allow avatars to pose as patients with rashes or other skin presentations. But, I only know HTML coding language, so there is a steep learning curve to produce anything on my own. What are others doing?
